Test Run
Test Run is a powerful solo performance by Janusz Orlik, desperate to ‘dance alone for once, without the usual things getting in the way… other dancers for example’!
He begins with a gentle, intimate solo to the rich, looping, multi-layered soundtrack performed live by violinists Patrycja Kujawska and Matt Howden. The music starts with beautiful, whispering sounds like the sea that along with angelic vocals, wrap themselves around the sculpted body of the dancer, pulling him into elegant balletic movements. These give way to a thrilling and intricate trio, with more pulsating, throbbing rhythms, during which Janusz’s movements are shaped by the physical and musical interventions of the two musicians who share the space with him.
Test Run becomes a complex, highly structured trio – a game in which the dancer and musicians battle, making your heart beat faster as you watch the huge personal demands placed on the dancer to avoid public meltdown and to keep control of the stage. You will be mesmerized by all three performers and will find yourself on the edge of your seat.
